I never thought this day would come.
But it has…
And it is with great determination, frustration, sadness and humility I find I am writing about an issue inspired by Kim Kardashian West! I have never understood how or why Kim Kardashian has been able to beat at the heart of mainstream contemporary pop culture, but she has…
I’m no Anthony Joshua, so this post is not an attempt to take a jab to bring her down, in fact I admire the fact she has made a career from turning nothing into something (to an estimated tune of $40 – 50 million) but before I move forward I must take a step back because by the time I eventually proof read and post this, this particular topic will already be old news.
Non airbrushed images of Kim Kardashian West recently hit the internet and for some bizarre reason this “news” crashed into the conscience of mainstream media as the photos revealed that 36 year old, voluptuous, mother of two Kim Kardashian West was revealed as having cellulite! In my post I Don’t Think Your Ready For This… I detailed that cellulite is not an abnormality but a normal fat that poses no adverse risk, but if you have no interest in reading the entirety of that post, I also said…
“But let’s think of it another way…think back to the last time you went on a first date, do you recall anyone mentioning cellulite? Was cellulite one of the reasons you stayed together or parted ways? Did cellulite have any importance or value when you decided to go for a second date or contact the object of your affections again?
Probably not…“
It certainly didn’t stop erratic, hip hop musical genius Kanye West from wanting to put a ring on Kim’s digitus annularis and eventually bring forth two children into their reality, so I figure, if it doesn’t bother Kanye, Kris, Kylie, Kendall or Kourtney and doesn’t pose an imminent health risk, why should we even care?
A small digital village of 100,000+ people where so horrified, by seeing the reality of a woman’s body they fled Mrs Kardashian West’s social media, outraged by the fact that Kim K. has been photoshopping her Instagram account for years and setting a bad example for young girls everywhere.
But I still don’t get it…
So perhaps what I’m about to say may come as a surprise…
Photographic manipulation has been happening almost since the dawn of the first photographs and has been running rampant through entertainment industries ever since. I’m old enough to remember when actress Julia Roberts had her head digitally imposed on a whole other body for the Pretty Woman poster!
Kim Kardashian West is doing nothing more scandalous than any other celebrity who basks under the scrutiny of the media looking glass. Undisputed Instagram queen Selena Gomez openly admits she “can’t keep her hands to herself” and uses filters on all her imagery, so why such hurt over Kim K?
An argument has been put forward that the worlds most famous Kardashian has made other women feel inadequate because she constantly portrays her body to be perfection? But don’t we all engage in a little photographic manipulation? Don’t we all take a shot that will help us to look our best and then tweak the contrast, colour or filter options? Or perhaps that’s just me?
My Instagram account has a grand total of 126 followers and I tailor every image to look as flawless as possible, last time I checked Kim Kardashian West had 99.4 million followers! If I had a social media account that had more followers than the population of Egypt even I might be tempted to hire the best team of digital enhancers on the planet!
Kim Kardashian West has her own daughter to raise and should not be held solely accountable for destroying the self esteem of young women worldwide and if Kim Kardashian West has more influence than parents then I’ll confess to being a little worried…
Until next time.
Tyrone!!!!!!!!!!! There were so many great moments and thought transitions in the piece, I wanted to quote them all, eh! Not a stroke of the finger was wasted and agree wholeheartedly. “Kim Kardashian West has her own daughter to raise and should not be held solely accountable for destroying the self-esteem of young women worldwide” <- this is golden…smh, my mother reared myself and my sister well enough that our self-esteem and self-worth comes from within our own beings. To assume that another woman would be to blame for any display of low esteem from either my sister or self would be blasphemous. Mothers and fathers need to take responsibility for the rearing of their own children. #EminemMusicSyndrome …s/n: "Pretty Woman" is my joint! but did not know the fun fact about the poster ^_^ thanks!

Thanks Udall 😊 I’m not a Kim K fan, but the fact that she has cellulite shouldn’t have even made it to the publics consciousness.

I solve the tweaking problem simply by not having my picture taken. Notice my WordPress avatar.

This is so true. I don’t dislike her as such, I simply don’t understand why she gets so much media coverage. You are a very talented writer-I can imagine you as an awesome journalist, you just have the right tone and clever way with words… never give it up! 🙂

Tyronepierre I couldn’t agree more, I’m sure I speak for most women by saying that I’m just sooo tired of being told by the media and people around me about what’s attractive and what I’m supposed to look like. We are who we are take it or leave it! That includes my cellulite 🙂

Well said! I also don’t think that in the real world people care as much, as the media would like people to think they do. Thanks for commenting 😊😊😊
